Bounty (St. Lucia)

Objective Notes
Smooth (on the RnD scale of Harsh-Smooth-Very Smooth-Extremely Smooth)

Very slight butterscotch smell. Smooth warm and very light are the first things you will notice on your first sip. No dominate flavors are discovered. A simple rum with a warm smooth finish with just a very insignificant bit of heat. Drink Neat or on ice. It's also great as a mixer. The color is light or pale golden color - almost blonde. Uninteresting in the bottle, this rum is easy to underestimate. In blind tasting arranged against four other, older, more well known and expensive old rums last October at picturesque Spinnaker’s restaurant on Reduit Beach, Saint Lucia, Bounty was chosen as the favorite.

Anecdotal Notes
Bounty is a local rum from the island of St. Lucia. It is a wonderful rum on its own merit and is a good value for the price. It isn't aged long but is better than many other 3 year old rums from the same region. Roger purchased a bottle in the St. Lucia southern airport, Vigi, last October before our returned home. Bounty is made with locally grown sugarcane by the St. Lucia distillers in Castries, the capital city. St. Lucians take great pride in their island, with it's strong agricultural industry, natural beauty featured in many box-office hit movies, and rum making traditions. RnD’s tasters particularly appreciate St. Lucia and that last bit. Their motto is "Our Island, Our Bounty".

Note of clarification:  Bounty Rum (40% ABV) is distilled by St. Lucia Distillers on St. Lucia in the Caribbean.  It is not the same product as Bounty Overproof Rum (58%ABV), which is distilled by the South Pacific Distilleries on Fiji.  The two Bounty’s are completely different rums; hemispheres apart you could say.

Taster’s Opinion
RnD - This is a casual, inexpensive rum for everyday drinking, neat or in mixed drinks. Roger enjoys Bounty on the rocks as a smooth, simple cocktail, whereas Dave prefers its upfront genuine flavors sipped neat. This rum will be hard to find outside of St. Lucia and surrounding islands but if RnD were sailing in the area we wouldn't hesitate to add a case of this rum to our provisions due to its price and versatility.
