Objective Notes
Very Smooth (on the RnD scale of Harsh-Smooth-Very Smooth-Extremely Smooth)

This rum is blend of light golden rum and Caribbean spices. It has a strong aroma of vanilla which is the main flavor you will taste. It almost overpowers this flavored sipping rum. It is a different vanilla flavor than I've experienced naturally from non-spiced rums or even when I add a vanilla bean to a bottle of rum. The rum is smooth and easy to sip which is what it is intended for.

Anecdotal Notes                                                                     Captain Morgan is the world number 2 rum producer behind Bacardi. It is a mass market rum that is easy to find anywhere in the US and Canada. It has been available for about 10 years and now comes in a new designed bottle with a attractive wooden topped cork that helps set it apart from its sibling, Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum.

My first experience with this rum was at a locally sponsored rum tasting. The distributor teamed up with a high end brew pub and hosted the event which included dinner. This rum was an extra bonus at the end of the regular tasting which had consisted of the Captain Morgan's Parrot Bay flavored rums (used to make tasty cocktails). I was happy to get to try the flagship rum of this large rum producer. I had seen it before but had failed to try or purchase it. Well after the tasting I went out and purchased my own bottle.

Taster’s Opinion
Roger - I prefer Captain Morgan Private Stock over the Original Captain Morgan Spiced Rum. It is much smoother and less harsh without the strong alcohol flavor. It has a very distinctive vanilla flavor that is different from all other rums I've tasted. It would be very easy to pick this one out of a blind taste test. Drink this rum neat or on the rocks if you prefer. It could be used in a mixed drink but I would save this one for sipping and use it's less expensive original spiced sibling cocktails.
