A medium bodied, almost creamy rum with a substantial tropical flavor of bananas. It has a nice buttery finish and has a consistent flavor. A slight bite up front but with a smooth finish.
Anecdotal Notes
This blended rum is distilled from molasses in Grenada. Old Grog Rum dates back to the early days when the finest of Grenada's Rum was shipped to his Majesty George III of England. In order to identify the King's Rum, the casks were marked G.R.O.G., which is the abbreviation for Georgius Rex Old Grenada. It is fine for sipping neat or on ice. It is also is excellent in cocktails. A medium bodied light amber-copper colored rum with a nice consistent flavor. This is a nice rum for sipping in the evening after a long day of sailing, exploring tropical islands, or work. The bottle was wrapped in an attractive rough cloth bag with drawstrings. RnD obtained the bottle of Old Grog Rum while anchored near Gustavia, St. Barths. And island in the French West Indies. It was given to us as a gift from the Captain of a fine, three masted tall ship built in the mid-twenties. His generous contribution was very much appreciated.
Tasters Opinion
Roger - This is a good rum for its age. Its unique banana flavors and smooth buttery finish make it a nice rum to enjoy as a specialty drink, not for general purpose sipping. I’d recommend drinking it neat.
