Diplomatico Añejo

Objective Notes
Very Smooth (on the RnD scale of Harsh-Smooth-Very Smooth-Extremely Smooth).

Maple straw color of exquisite clarity invites you to sample refreshingly soft aromas of sweet cane, with nice scents of oak and vanilla bean.  Mildly herbaceous and nutty scents (essence of pecan, cashew) are less apparaent, followed by a spices of clove, cinnamon, butterscotch, a hint of nutmeg, and mild but inobjectionable ethanol in evident throughout.  There are no flavor surprises after sniffing, as the initial taste is pleasantly consistent with the aromas, and reveals a medium sweet and somewhat woody rum, with adequately mature, and just enough spicy edge to heighten interest.  The medium-weight body plays consistently with your senses, while the finish is fine and sweet, light enough to soothe your tongue, and long-lasting.

Anecdotal Notes
An attractive label on parchment-style paper is both dignified and humble. Diplomatico Anejo’s bottle shares the same wide shape as the distiller’s superb Reserva Exclusiva rum, except the glass used for the Añejo is clear and unfrosted.

Taster’s Opinion
Diplomatico Añejo is a delicious sipping rum in its own right, all the more impressive considering the low price.  Sufficiently smooth with enough complexity in aroma and flavor to reward delicate sipping, even the rich molasses foundation adds depth and texture without being overwhelming. Overall, Diplomatico Añejo delivers a refined character that is rare in a relatively young rum.
