Diplomatico Blanco

Objective Notes
Very Smooth (on the RnD scale of Harsh-Smooth-Very Smooth-Extremely Smooth)

Diplomatico Rum Blanco shows almost crystal clear, the transparency perhaps occluded only by the appealing sugar contents.  Mildly complex, pleasant aromas of vanilla, oak, and slightly organic smells of cane juice and a hint of sweet butter add to the mystery.   Only refined alcohol are readily detected, as all of the off odors are  distilled and filtered out,.  The initial taste is clean and slightly sweet like mild caramel and butterscotch on a medium body, ending slightly dry.  What little of the finish lingers is delicate and creamy.

Anecdotal Notes
Diplomatico Blanco Ultra Premium Rum was first discovered by RnD at the Ministry of Rum Tasting Competition and Miami Rum Renaissance in May 2009, where it earned a well deserved Gold Medal.

Diplomatico Rum Blanco rum is produced from sugar cane and distilled in a combination of column and copper pots stills four times, ensuring a high level ofalcoholoc purity for the spirit that ages in white oak barrels for a 6 years. After aging, all color is removed by five filtrations through carbon. The distinct though subtle flavor of sugar cane in the final product suggests that cane juice is added before bottling.

The bottle is tall, cylindrical, and heavy. The distinctive Diplomatico postage stamp label is copper-orange colored over a clear glass. A copper foil neck and a synthetic cork topped by a copper plastic cap finishes the presentation.

Taster’s Opinion
Dave - If your first tasting of Diplomatico Rum Blanco were literally blind, meaning you were unable to actually see what you were driniking, your other senses would surely indicate a nicely aged, mahagony colored rum was in your glass.  The aromas are simply that suggestive. Indeed, one could argue that Diplomatico Rum Blanco is more in the league of aged rum and should not be lumped together with white rums, which are usually bottled younger – the rum is truly different. Overall, Diplomatico’s Blanco the rum is perfectly suited to sipping, and works equally well in premium cocktails.
