Objective Notes
Very Smooth (on the RnD scale of Harsh-Smooth-Very Smooth-Extremely Smooth)
Diplomatico Blanco Rum is crystal clear due the carbon filtration process which removes all color gained from aging in white oak barrels. The process is repeated a total of 5 times before bottling. Aromas are soft and restrained consisting of fresh cut cane, very light vanilla, and the faintest hint of alcohol. The first sip introduces an elegantly silky-smooth almost velvety texture and sweet flavors consistent with the aromas. A delightfully long and smooth lingering finish leaves you thinking “was that really a white rum I just enjoyed?” Then you look at the bottle and pour some more.
Anecdotal Notes
Diplomatico Blanco Rum was first discovered by RnD at the Ministry of Rum Tasting Competition and Miami Rum Renaissance this past May. It was a well deserved gold medal winner.
The rum is produced from the finest grade of sugar cane and distilled in copper pots a total of 4 times to ensure only the finest parts of the distillate ends up in the white oak barrels for an extended 6 year nap. During the process it is carbon filtered 5 times to remove all traces of color. The process is labor and time intensive that very few white rums goes though. The result is truly exceptional. The bottle is tall round and heavy. Distinctive Diplomatico labeling is copper-orange colored on a clear background. A copper foil neck and a synthetic cork topped by a copper plastic cap finishes the presentation.
Taster’s Opinion
Roger - Diplomatico Blanco Rum is one of the very best premium white rums available anywhere. The folks at Diplomatico really put in the effort, time, and money to produce a truly superior product. It’s ultra smooth and really can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in a cocktail where you want to showcase the rum. It makes amazing cocktails but don’t demote it to a rum & coke or strawberry daiquiri. If it’s available buy it. Thank me later.
