Envy

Objective Notes
Very Smooth (on the RnD scale of Harsh-Smooth-Very Smooth-Extremely Smooth).

Envy rum is crystal clear in color. It has pleasantly clean and low-key aromas of light ethanol aromas and cut cane. Tasting it reveals lighter than expected warmth up front, a light body, and a hint of spice. It departs it rather quickly with a dry finish with a hint of pepper and hot cinnamon.

Anecdotal Notes

I purchased Envy in Acapulco in the nicest liquor store, La Europa. I knew to go there from past trips and asked the manager to help find a good rum made in Mexico. He pointed me to the tall clear bottle of Envy “Diamond Class Rum” as it’s labeled. It’s made in Veracruz and produced by the Laslov Group of Mexico City. Currently there is no information available on this rum on it’s or any other website. I suspect that it’s distilled in a column still at least twice, likely three times due to how refined it is. I also suspect it might be aged a few years and charcoal filtered. But this is just speculation. The bottle is clear, tall with a wider bottom and slight hourglass shape tapered at the mid-section. A subdued off white label and a green glass bottom gives an interesting effect when viewing the bottle. It’s capped off with a short metal screw cap with Envy embossed on the top.

Taster’s Opinion

Envy is very good white rum. Besides rum based drinks it could easily be substituted in most vodka based drinks and cocktails due to how clean and smooth it is. Envy is only available in Mexico at this time so if you happen to find it while on a trip there I recommend picking up a bottle.
