Lemon Hart

Objective Notes
Harsh (on the RnD scale of Harsh-Smooth-Very Smooth-Extremely Smooth)

Lemon Hart shows a dark amber in color. On the nose, Lemon Hart demonstrates an unsophisticated bitter/sweetness. Initial tasting reveals flavors most akin to a fruitcake, as its Individual flavors are inseparable and not at al complex, but nearly overwhelm with woody char. It reminds me of unsweetened chocolate and cigar tobacco.

Anecdotal Notes
Lemon Hart is promoted as a Demarara rum from Guyana, and while its sugars are from that South American country, the distillation is actually performed in England. I found it in a small, well supplied liquor store in Kihei, Maui, Hawaii. While the shop offered several premium Rum's, the manager recommended Lemon Hart because one of her regular customer’s “more or less plows though a bottle of this rum every two weeks”. Since I generally enjoy rums from Guyana, and find the Guyanese people to be very friendly and warm, I decided to follow the shop's recommendation. Well, I discovered that, while Lemon Hart does have some slight resemblance to other premium Demarara rums like El Dorado, it compares unfavorably to them. It's flavor is simple and direct, with very little reward at the finish.

Taster’s Opinion
While purely speculative on my part, its color and flavors appear to be added, say from caramel. This is not a rum for sipping. I do recommend using Lemon Hart to fortify Eggnog, especially with a little nutmeg and cinnamon sprinkled on top, or to add bitters in a cocktail. It would be good to mix with Guava and Passion fruit juice over ice for a flavorful rum punch.
