Medellin 8 Añose Extra-Añejo
Medellin 8 Añose Extra-Añejo
Objective Notes
Extremely Smooth (on the RnD scale of Harsh-Smooth-Very Smooth-Extremely Smooth).
In your glass, Medellin 8 Años displays a brilliant shade of golden amber, shiny like polished copper. A bouquet of sweet caramel, oaken vanilla and cane appear briefly before heavier sweet aromas fill your nose, with scents of caramelized maple sugar, thick pie crust, a mild earthiness like leather, and devoid of any alcohol off-odors that would spoil the olfactory trance. Medellin Ocho’s sweet aromas are rather simple, but refined and delectable. The initial taste is drier on entry than the aromas would lead you to expect, more like honey and nuts, adding a complex turn from the carmelized sugar sweetness of the nose. Mild spiciness like nutmeg, some clean fresh oak woodiness and dry thin leather are also apparent. Body weight is medium-light but well structured, fully appropriate for the flavors, while the finish is subtle with a slightly dry understated lingering sweetness.

Taster’s Opinion
Dave – Medellin 8 Años is mild and delicious enough to sip anytime of year, but its sweet aromas and flavors trigger memories of the Autumn seasonal change and all its associated delights – like old fashioned pumpkin pie (lots of real pumpkin, light on the processed filling) or warm apple pie topped with some cinnamon and brown sugar. Hmm; I think I just talked myself into another sip.
