Objective Notes

Very Smooth (on the RnD scale of Harsh-Smooth-Very Smooth-Extremely Smooth)

Pritchard’s Sweet Georgia Belle Peach Mango Rum is dark amber in color. Surprisingly you aren’t overwhelmed by fruit on the nose but instead light alcohol and sweet dried fruit and honey aromas are detected. First taste reveals a medium body and very sweet flavors of (surprise) mango and peach but also honey.  The finish is like a nice southern belle; warm, sweet, and long.

Anecdotal Notes

Phil Pritchard has made good rum in Tennessee for a long time and moved into the flavored rum market a few years ago. Pritchard’s Sweet Georgia Belle Peach Mango Rum is distilled from molasses and aged for about 3 years in small oak casks. This allows for a more intense aging process where the rum can obtain the benefits of aging in oak more rapidly. Its fairly smooth due to its time in oak and also partially due to its lower alcohol continent at 35%. It is presented in a fine bottle with a heavy bottom that’s shaped slightly tapered toward the shoulders of the bottle with a long thin neck. It’s topped with a cork stopper and dark brownish bronze foil and a silver ribbon. Not your normal flavored rum bottle and for that matter not your normal flavored rum.

Taster’s Opinion

Pritchard’s Sweet Georgia Belle Peach Mango Rum is a unique product on the market. Its competition is spiced or flavored rums from the Caribbean but it really isn’t meant to go directly head-to-head with them. Rather it’s more of a premium flavored sipping rum that’s meant for enjoying neat, possibly as an after dinner drink. It reminds me of sipping Grand Marnier.  It can also be used in creative rum drinks and recipes (many that you can find on Pritchard’s website). One recipe, Peaches Georgia Belle, is described like bananas foster but with a southern flair. So if you are into flavored rums or like the flavor combination I’d certainly give this rum a try.
