Treaty Oak Platinum Rum

Objective Notes

Very Smooth (on the RnD scale of Harsh-Smooth-Very Smooth-Extremely Smooth)

Treaty Oak Platinum Rum is perfectly clear in color. When you raise the glass to your nose you are pleased by what you don’t find; an absence of vile aromas, the sweet alcohol tells you this is a cleanly distilled and refined product. Hints of fresh cut cane are revealed. Your initial sip reveals a light body with moderate spiciness up front, then refined notes of vanilla, wild grass, mint and citrus flavors. Treaty Oak’s finish is nicely warm and of medium length.

Anecdotal Notes

Named after a stately Live Oak over 500 years old located in downtown Austin whose beginnings trace back to a legend. That stately pride and tradition continues with Treaty Oak Platinum Rum being made by hand from scratch using only local Texas ingredients including molasses from the last operating sugar mill in the state.  A proprietary process removes impurities from the molasses, allowing appropriate time for fermentation before the wash enters the copper column still.  Blending with pure water and activated charcoal filtering produces a clean final product that isn’t aged.

A short, wide round bottle adds substance to the quality of the rum inside.  The image of an oak tree embossed on the back of the bottle is visible above the clean black label when looking though the bottle. A nice finishing touch is the real cork stopper covered with black foil. The distiller plans to substitute synthetic cork for quality control purposes.

Taster’s Opinion

Roger - Treaty Oak Platinum Rum is 100% made in the USA and is finely distilled and filtered resulting in a clean and pure final product ready for any rum based drink or Martini. It is smooth and refined even without aging in oak. It can easily cross over into the premium vodka market. It's priced competitively in its class and I'd recommend adding it to your collection it if you are in the market for a nice silver rum.

Dave - Treaty Oak Platinum is a clean understated clear rum that is smooth enough to be enjoyed neat, but really shines when used in more sophisticated cocktails where a mildly flavorful smooth rum can be appreciated.  A touch of sugar cane flavor reminiscent of cachaça, and hints of vanilla and citrus add subtle complexity to this nice American rum.
