Viejo de Caldas 3 year old
Viejo de Caldas 3 year old
Objective Notes
Smooth (on the RnD scale of Harsh-Smooth-Very Smooth-Extremely Smooth)
Golden light amber in color is what you would expect from the 3 year old Ron Viejo de Caldas. Aromas of bananas and light hint of fruitiness are delicately presented to you with no unexpected surprises or off flavors. The body is very light revealing flavors of sweet tropical fruit like juicy fruit gum and Bananas Foster. A bit of heat in the body leads to a quick finish with flavors there one minute and then gone the next.
Anecdotal Notes
I purchased this bottle of rum in the supper 99 store near the dock in Colón, Panama. It was purchased for a rum tasting that I was hosting on a tall ship in September 2007 off the coast of Panama, in the San Blas Islands. It was one of 8 rums in the tasting that were mostly from Panama and Central America. This rum matched up well with its competition and was priced competitively in Panama. It is packaged in a nice bottle with a golden label clearly displaying its age of 3 years in the middle of the label. It has a gold color plastic screw cap “Stelvin” closure device” closure device and the plastic pour spout limiter.
Taster’s Opinion
Roger - Viejo de Caldas 3 year old is a well-mannered everyday rum. I recommend it be enjoyed in a cocktail or rum based drink. It’s just a little young for me to drink neat but was better with some ice. It made a great rum punch! Overall I’d recommend this rum if you can find it reasonably priced for making great rum based cocktails or drinks.
