Westerhall Plantation Rum

Objective Notes
Smooth (on the RnD scale of Harsh-Smooth-Very Smooth-Extremely Smooth)

Pale golden straw color. Only slightly sweet on the nose, with pineapple and citrus aromas, lemon grass, and the slightest hints of vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon, alcohol is subdued. Nicely off dry on the finish. Distilled from fresh crushed sugar cane juice in copper kettles, and then blended with oak aged rum to give it depth, character, color, and flavor, Westerhall tastes more mature than its color would lead you to believe.

Anecdotal Notes
I really wanted to like Westerhall Plantation rum because I absolutely love Grenada. Every one of the many times I've been to that paradise in the past 16 years, a local has gone out of his or her way to thank me for saving their country, simply because I'm an American. Grenada was rescued from a despotic ruler by American forces in 1983. And the rum fulfills my wishes with the same friendly, peaceful nature as the people of Grenada.

Taster’s Opinion
Dave - Like the beautiful, friendly island of Grenada where it's is made, Westerhall is unassuming, just delicately sweet and mildly spicy. Just sniffing this rum reminds you of taking a deep breath on Grenada, a lush, floral island in the southern part of Windward chain whose main crop is nutmeg. Westerhall is simple, pleasant, and understated. Plenty smooth enough to serve neat, Add a little ice and a twist of orange or lemon for a nice cocktail. Of course it would work well in a mixed drink, but its subtle flavors will be overwhelmed by the more sugary rum cocktails.
